What Is DreamSculpt Ortho-K?
DreamSculpt Ortho-K is a non-invasive treatment that uses custom rigid gas-permeable lenses worn overnight. The lenses gently reshape the cornea, the clear front of the eye. Your child sees clearly during the day without glasses, and nearsightedness gets worse more slowly. Studies show it can slow how fast the eye grows longer, which helps protect your child's eyesight. We map each eye with corneal topography and design the lenses to fit it.
How DreamSculpt Works
DreamSculpt retainers gently flatten the center of the cornea overnight, so vision is clear for the day. The effect is temporary, so the retainers are worn every night. A special dye (fluorescein) that glows under a blue light lets us check that the lens fits well, for comfort and the best results. Most patients notice clearer vision within a few days.
We design DreamSculpt lenses with a corneal topographer, an instrument that maps the shape of the cornea. Those measurements let Bolt Eye Group build a computer model of your DreamSculpt retainer. At each visit, we map the eye again to measure how much the cornea's focusing power has changed.
At your first appointment, your eye doctor takes a range of measurements from each eye. Software uses this data to design your DreamSculpt Ortho-K retainer.
Bolt Eye Group makes each lens to your prescription and the exact shape of your eye, down to the micron. We don't need a long trial fitting before we order. Because of this, we can treat more complex prescriptions with fewer fitting visits and lens changes.
FDA approval: Overnight corneal-reshaping lenses are FDA-approved for the temporary reduction of nearsightedness. Several designs are approved for nearsightedness up to 6.00 diopters and astigmatism up to 1.75 diopters (diopters measure prescription strength).
Lens Insertion and Removal
Watch how to put the retainers in, take them out and care for them. Careful handling and cleaning keep your child's eyes comfortable and safe. Our team trains both parents and children, so you feel confident at home.

All Procedures Carry Potential Risks
Myopia control is elective. Most patients have no complications, but possible risks include:
- Lens awareness (feeling the lens; usually fades within 2–3 days)
- Blurriness (vision may not be fully clear at first)
- Over- or under-correction (may need a new lens design)
- Halos, glare or streaks (if the lens is off-center or pupils are large)
- Scratches on the eye's surface (usually mild, from trapped debris)
- Infections (careful cleaning is essential)

Our Definition of a “Successful DreamSculpt Ortho-K Result”
We define success as: “Clear vision all day without lenses, within two lines on the eye chart of your child's best vision with glasses, with little or no cornea or eyelid irritation.”
We keep improving the fit until we meet this standard. DreamSculpt is about comfort, eye health and clear vision every day.
Follow-Up Visits
After the first night in the lenses, we check your child the next morning. We check again at one week. Your child may feel the lenses for 2–3 days, and vision is often clear by the end of the first week. The best results take 6–8 hours of wear each night.
Yearly DreamSculpt Evaluations
Myopia control continues until the eye stops growing, usually around age 23 to 25. We track your child's progress to get the best result. On average, studies show DreamSculpt Ortho-K slows eye growth by about half, but results vary from child to child. New retainers and a yearly evaluation are required to stay in the program.
Yearly Retainer Replacements
Gas-permeable DreamSculpt retainers can warp and pick up scratches or deposits over time. Over a year, deposits can build up on the lens and weaken its myopia control. We require new retainers every year to keep vision clear, keep controlling myopia and protect eye health.
Current Contact Lens Wearers
Stop wearing your current contacts before the first fitting, so our eye maps are accurate:
- Soft spherical (daily): 1 day
- Soft spherical (extended): 2 days
- Soft toric/bifocal: 2 days
- Rigid gas permeable: 3–4 weeks
- Other overnight lenses: 1 month
