Reading glasses are not your only option
After 40, almost everyone starts holding things farther away to read. That is presbyopia. We help you choose the option that fits your life.

What is presbyopia?
A normal part of getting older.
The lens inside your eye is flexible when you are young, which lets it change focus from far to near. With age it gets stiffer, and close-up focusing gets harder. It usually starts in the early to mid 40s and keeps changing for years.
Holding things farther away
Menus, phones and labels need to be held at arm’s length.
Eye strain up close
Tired eyes or headaches after reading or close work.
Needing more light
Small print is harder to read in dim light.

Can I prevent presbyopia?
No. It happens to everyone as the lens ages, even people who never needed glasses before.
Are store-bought readers OK?
They can work for simple needs, but they do not correct astigmatism or differences between your eyes, and they are not a substitute for an eye exam.
