Bolt Eye Group Lawrenceville, formerly Lawrenceville Family Eyecare, is a full-scope optometry office on Professional Drive in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Dr. Mehdi Kazemzadeh ("Dr. Kazem") founded the practice more than twenty years ago and still leads it. Dr. David Lopp and Dr. Quynh Ta work with him. Same doctor, same office, now with the added resources of Bolt Eye Group.

We offer eye exams for adults and kids, scleral and specialty contacts, DreamSculpt Ortho-K and myopia control, glaucoma and dry eye care, and designer eyewear. If your eye is red, painful or injured, call 678-993-2020 and we'll try to see you the same day.

DreamSculpt Ortho-K and Myopia Control in Lawrenceville

If your child's prescription jumps every year, that's myopia (nearsightedness) getting worse. Gwinnett parents ask us about this all the time, and it's worth acting on: a stronger prescription in childhood means a higher lifetime chance of retinal detachment, glaucoma and damage to the center of the retina.

Dr. Mehdi Kazemzadeh ("Dr. Kazem") has fit DreamSculpt Ortho-K lenses for Lawrenceville families for years. Each pair of lenses is custom-made and worn only while your child sleeps. Overnight the lenses reshape the front of the eye, so your child goes through the day seeing clearly without glasses or daytime contacts. The overnight method behind DreamSculpt Ortho-K is also one of the most studied ways to slow myopia in children. Dr. Kazem starts with a corneal map and follows your child closely in the first weeks.

Barbra Williams, COT, COA, assists Dr. Kazem with Lawrenceville DreamSculpt Ortho-K and scleral lens fittings.

DreamSculpt Ortho-K isn't right for every child. Dr. Kazem also offers myopia-control soft contact lenses and specialty glasses lenses, and he'll help you weigh the choices.

Eye Exams in Lawrenceville, GA

What a Bolt Eye Group exam includes

Your exam at our Lawrenceville office goes well past the eye chart. We fine-tune your prescription, check eye pressure, and look at the front and back of the eye under a slit lamp. Every patient also gets our $39 imaging: digital photos of the retina and optic nerve, and a map of the cornea that screens for keratoconus. Saving those images lets us compare year to year and catch small changes early. With an in-office telehealth visit, the same $39 also covers two OCT glaucoma scans, one of the optic nerve and one of the macula. You also take your images home on a free I-Scan Platinum Lifetime Baseline USB card.

Why a yearly exam matters

Many serious eye conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration, don't hurt or blur vision until they've progressed. That's why we recommend a yearly exam for adults in Lawrenceville and across Gwinnett. The retina's blood vessels can also show early high blood pressure or diabetes. In kids, an exam finds focusing and eye-teaming problems that a school screening can miss and that may look like a reading problem.

How to schedule

Book online at any time, or call or text 678-993-2020 Monday to Thursday, 9 to 5. Saturday appointments are available every other week. Bring your insurance cards, current glasses and contacts, and a list of your medicines.

Scleral Lenses, Dry Eye and Eyewear in Lawrenceville

If you've been told your eyes are "too hard to fit" for contacts because of keratoconus, high astigmatism or an earlier eye surgery, scleral lenses may be the answer. They vault over the cornea on a cushion of fluid, which gives sharp, comfortable vision when glasses and regular contacts can't. Dr. Kazem has fit specialty lenses for more than twenty years. Learn more about scleral lenses.

If your eyes burn, feel gritty, water too much, or get tired on screens, it may be dry eye, and drops alone rarely fix it for good. We find the cause and build a treatment plan that lasts. Learn more about dry eye treatment. Our Lawrenceville optical team helps you choose frames, checks every finished pair, and adjusts your glasses at pickup. Browse our eyewear.

Lawrenceville Eye Care FAQs

How much does an eye exam cost in Lawrenceville, Georgia?

That depends on your insurance and the reason for your visit. A routine yearly exam is usually covered by a vision plan like VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision or Spectera, with a small copay. Visits for medical problems, such as dry eye, an infection, glaucoma or diabetes, are usually billed to medical insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna and Humana. If you're paying yourself, call 678-993-2020 for the price before you book. We take HSA and FSA cards and CareCredit.

Does Bolt Eye Group Lawrenceville take my insurance?

Most likely. Our Lawrenceville office takes VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, Spectera and other vision plans, as well as Medicare, Medicaid and most major medical plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna and Humana. Call with your plan name and we'll verify your benefits before your visit.

Can I be seen the same day for an eye problem?

Yes. Call 678-993-2020 if your eye is red, painful or injured, your vision changes suddenly, or something is stuck in your eye, and we'll try to fit you in that day. If you suddenly see flashes of light or a curtain across your vision, call right away. That can be a retinal emergency.

At what age should my child have an eye exam?

Earlier than you might think. The American Optometric Association recommends a first eye exam between 6 and 12 months, at least one more between ages 3 and 5, another before first grade, and yearly exams during school. Come in sooner if your child squints, holds books very close, rubs their eyes often or avoids reading.

Is DreamSculpt Ortho-K safe for kids?

Yes, when it's fitted well and followed closely. DreamSculpt Ortho-K uses an overnight lens method with a long history and plenty of research in children. Any overnight lens carries some risk of infection, but good cleaning habits and regular check-ups keep it low. Dr. Kazem teaches each family the care routine and keeps your child on a set follow-up schedule.

Is this the same office as Lawrenceville Family Eyecare?

Yes. Lawrenceville Family Eyecare is now Bolt Eye Group Lawrenceville, in the same office at 575 Professional Dr Suite 100, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, with Dr. Kazem still leading the practice. We're open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and every other Saturday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm by appointment. We're closed on Friday.

My parent was told they have glaucoma but no referral was made. What should we ask?

Ask whether it's glaucoma, suspected glaucoma or high eye pressure, what the pressure readings were, and who will follow up. In Lawrenceville, Dr. Kazemzadeh focuses on medical eye care, including glaucoma, and can take a second look and explain a clear plan. Learn more

Does Medicare pay for glasses after cataract surgery?

Medicare Part B usually helps pay for one pair of standard glasses or one set of contacts after each cataract surgery that places a lens implant, and upgrades cost extra. Ask our Lawrenceville front desk to check your coverage before you order, and have your surgery date handy. Learn more

I pinched my eye trying to take out a contact lens. What should I do?

Leave your lenses out, don't rub the eye, and use preservative-free artificial tears; small scrapes usually heal in a day or two. If it hurts, feels gritty, or turns red or blurry, call our Lawrenceville office and we'll try to see you the same day. Learn more

My eye doctor and rheumatologist disagree about my Plaquenil dose. What should I ask?

Ask them to agree on a weight-based max dose and a clear screening schedule, often yearly with OCT of the macula. Our Lawrenceville office does Plaquenil screening exams and can share the findings with your rheumatologist so no one changes your medicine without the eye results in hand. Learn more

Has anyone done HOA correction for their scleral lens, and when is it worth it?

Wavefront-guided (HOA) overlays can help residual ghosting after a solid scleral fit, but ask for a predictive measurement first. Lawrenceville can start the specialty-lens conversation and refer within Bolt/Reimbold when a custom wavefront lens is the next step. Learn more

I have anxiety about my long axial length. How do people cope, and what should I watch for?

A long axial length means lifelong dilated monitoring matters more than late-night symptom searching. At Lawrenceville we can track length when useful and give you a clear same-day symptom list for flashes, floaters, or a curtain. Learn more
