Eye drops for near vision
Prescription presbyopia drops such as VUITY™ (pilocarpine HCl ophthalmic solution 1.25%) can help some adults see up close for part of the day.
How they work
A smaller pupil, a sharper near focus.
Pilocarpine drops make the pupil smaller. Like a camera with a smaller aperture, a smaller pupil increases depth of focus, which can make close-up things clearer.
Who may benefit
Adults with mild to moderate presbyopia who want less dependence on readers.
Who may not
People with certain retina problems, eye inflammation or a need for sharp night vision may not be good candidates.

Safety first
Important safety information.
Before prescribing, we do a dilated eye exam to check the health of your retina. Drops that shrink the pupil can make dim light look darker. In rare cases, they have been linked to retinal detachment.
- Use caution driving at night or doing risky activities in poor light
- Call us right away if you notice sudden flashes, new floaters or a curtain over your vision
- Common side effects include headache and eye redness
- Remove contact lenses before using the drops and wait before putting them back in, as directed
