Meet Bolt: Our TICA Maine Coon Polydactyl Practice Mascot

Bolt the Maine Coon polydactyl kitten looking sharp in a spiked collar — Bolt Eye Group practice mascot

If you've been searching for a Maine Coon polydactyl — the big, shaggy "thumb cat" with extra toes — you've found ours. His name is Bolt, and he's the practice mascot at Bolt Eye Group.

Bolt is a TICA-registered Maine Coon Polydactyl. Maine Coons are famous for being dog-like: friendly, curious, and big enough to turn heads in the waiting room. Polydactyl means he has extra toes — twenty-six in all, with a real "thumb" on each front paw. Most cats have eighteen.

He's gearing up for his first cat show, and between grooming days and travel practice he keeps a busier calendar than some of us. We work with him every day so patients can enjoy him when he's in the office. He's not a prop — he's part of the team.

Working with cats like Bolt

People ask how a show-bound Maine Coon ends up in an eye clinic. The short answer: we bring him out and about on purpose. Bolt is:

  • Leash-trained — harness on, ready for a walk
  • A car rider — calm on the console for road trips
  • Toilet-trainable — yes, Maine Coons can learn (with patience and consistency)

That daily work is what makes him such a good practice mascot. When patients meet him, they're meeting a cat who's used to people, sounds, and new places — not one who only lives on the couch.
