Dr. Mehdi Kazemzadeh, Dr. Kazem to his patients, has practiced in Lawrenceville for more than twenty years. He founded Lawrenceville Family Eyecare, recognized by Gwinnett Magazine among the area's best practices in 2017, and built it into the office that is now Bolt Eye Group Lawrenceville, where he still leads the practice and sees patients every week.
He is a board-certified optometrist and was among the first optometrists in the country to complete the examinations to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
Dr. Kazem's specialty is the hard-to-fit contact lens: patients with high astigmatism, keratoconus or post-surgical corneas, and children and adults using orthokeratology (Ortho-K), the overnight lenses that reshape the cornea while you sleep and slow myopia in kids. Contact lens manufacturers have asked him to evaluate their lenses and have used his recommendations to improve their products. In Lawrenceville he fits Ortho-K and scleral lenses alongside Barbra Williams, COT, COA.
His other long interest is glaucoma, where he keeps current through regular continuing education on early detection and treatment. He also co-manages LASIK patients before and after surgery, and treats dry eye disease.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Columbus State University and his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in 1993, while also pursuing graduate study in physiological optics under Dr. Graeme Wilson. He completed his externship in the treatment and management of ocular disease with Dr. Paul Ajamian at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta.
Dr. Kazem is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Georgia Optometric Association and the Orthokeratology Academy of America. He speaks English, Persian and Spanish, and lives in Gwinnett County with his family.
